ROUTES for the Region
Route XIII .- The Castillejo and the Mill of the Cubo Municipal Area: Santiago del Campo

When we get closer to the riberos of Almonte, son of the auriferous Tagus, we discover one of the places with more natural value in the whole region Tagus-Salor-Almonte, specially for its immense diversity of the fauna and landscapes. This natural corridor, with more than one hundred kilometres, is born in the Villuercas and succumbs in Alcántara´s reservoir and has been declared Zone of Special Protection for the Birds. This is one of the most Protected Natural Space of Estremadura.
In addition, the route will allow us to contemplate riversides with slopes in good conditions of conservation, a fortified village, and the ruins of the Mill of the Cubo. In addition, there are centenary wild olive trees in the middle of mountains of oak, and to be able to walk by the old way that joined, in another epoch, Santiago del Campo with its neighbours of Casar.
