Route XII .- The Olive groves Municipal Area: Piedras Albas y Alcántara

This route passes through the olive grove. The itinerary has been orientated to the east of the urban centre of Piedras Albas, indeed in Alcántara´s municipal area, where there is a considerable mass of sandy area, propitious for the cultivation of the olive tree. Therefore, this is a zone with a clear agricultural vocation, where the scanty agrarian activity of the population still survives: the production of olive oil. The areas where we will go are lightly wavy, sometimes splashed with uncultivated masses of grove of evergreen oaks and pinegroves.
The area is descending progressively towards the Alcántara´s reservoir, where the Mediterranean riberos of the forest and bushes again become absolute owners of the soil. Nevertheless we will go in very uniform levels of altitude in the whole tour. Taking as the starting point the square of the village, we will cross the Barrio del Cordel, where still some families live close to the Royal Cañada of Gata, looking for the way of the Dehesilla to connect with the Road of the Olive groves. This is a broad way with a good road surface that turns to be the authentic axis of the route. We will leave this way to return by a narrower little road close to country houses, spread along of the tour. In general, the landscape is dominated by the fields of olive trees aligned in plots.
